Born in the
Niagara Penninsula, Susan pursued an art career at an early age
and eventually earned an honours degree in Art History/Fine Arts
at York University. She completed her final course in Italian
Art History in Italy in 1980.
Upon graduating,
Susan accepted a position at the McMichael Canadian Collection
which allowed her hands-on application of her skills.
Presently
raising a young family of three active boys susan still manages
to paint as well as teach. She has been involved with students
for the past 16 years in a variety of classes encompassing all
mediums.
Susan currently
teach arts courses for children and adults in watercolour and
acrylics for the York County Board of Education and for Aurora's
Creative Connection, an artist-run cooperative founded by Susan
and other artists from York Region. During the startup of Creative
Connection she was interviewed by the Toronto Star and appeared
on CTV's Eye on Toronto.
Showing her
work in exhibitions has won Susan awards in watercolour, acrylic
and pencil categories. In 1992, she was hounoured with the Johnson
Cultural Achievement Award, a civic award presented by the Town
of Aurora.
In addition,
in 1995, the Town of Aurora presented the parents of Terry Fox
with Susan's commissioned painting - an Iris, symbolic of the
courage, strength and continuing commitment of the Fox's to the
Terry Fox Run.
Her work can
be seen in several York Region art galleries in both watercolour
and acrylic mediums.
